Some miscellaneous Norton items from the Velobanjogent's archive....

I'm not "one eyed" you know!
Velocette is may be my main interest in motorcycling, especially at my age, but my archive holds lots of other interesting memorabilia...
So I opened a folder "Norton" and the follwing is a little from it.....
Some items could have appeared earlier in another post from me....
Apologies.... no particular order or theme....

Bat Byrnes at Bathurst, NSW on the Mt. Panorama circuit, unsure of the year...likely 1938,39 or 40...
He won the Senior Australian GP there in 1939 on a Norton...

1935 record breaking Norton of Jimmy Guthrie...114.092mph...

Err...a broken frame amongst other things.....

Dennis Fry pushes off in the Feature race at Oran Park,NSW,  1972...the only Norton still racing in title events in NSW then, likely Australia.

Aghhh..."caught"...The Velobanjogent rides one of Dennis Fry's 350 Manx Norton's at Bathurst during an historic race in the 1980's....friend John Herrick seems bemused at the line I'm spinning him....

For example Morton’s Motorcycle Media, publishers of “Old Bike Mart”, “Classic Racer”, “The Classic Motor Cycle” now own many old EMAP publications such as “The MotorCycle” and “MotorCycling”. They are happy for me to publish with due acknowledgement and where not for commercial gain.

I've titled this blog "The Norton Gang"... the photo is a "MotorCycling" one, which came to me from the deceased estate of George Lynn, the one time editor and founder of the Australian motorcycle paper "Australian Motorcycle News" ( the paper still exists today as the premier motorcycling paper in Australia).
George has notated on the back...
"The Norton gang" as they were called at the Junior Prize giving ( IOM TT...I feel it is 1950- the photo is undated, as this was the last year Harold Daniell and Artie Bell rode in the TT and Bell won the Junior TT, Duke came 2nd, Daniell came 3rd and Lockett came 6th, obviously winning the manufacturers and the team prize for Norton.) ..Mayor of Douglas ( Alderman Radcliffe), Johnny Lockett, Harold Daniell, Artie Bell ( with trophy), Gilbert Smith Norton's chief and kneeling Geoff Duke.
Judging by the crowd in the background the photo is taken at the prizegiving at the Villa Marina in Douglas, IOM.

As well I've included two Manx Norton photos, taken for The MotorCycle on 19th May 1960 by the photographer Donald Page of Moseley, Birmingham, UK to whom I acknowledge credit.

A few Norton photos...just to show I'm not that "one-eyed"...

While I'm the Velobanjogent, and the Velo in the name indicates, yes I'll admit it, a passion for Velocette, I like most other older motorcycles, so here are some Norton ones of interest, more to follow in a future blog...

Yes that's me on the 350 Manx, which I borrowed from Dennis Fry in 1980s and used in the Vintage race at the Bathurst circuit, west of Sydney. 8200 on the clock down the 1¼ mile straight in top and they handle great... but judging by the lack of interest in the expression on friend John Herrick's face, he wasn't impressed with the yarn I was spinning....

The badly knocked about Norton, unsure of the date, but it was in the IOM TT races and the crash occured on the mountain. When..anybody's guess, likely in 1930s.

The Filtrate Trophy was donated by Filtrate Oil in 1960s and is a Manx Norton crankshaft assembly..
